Appetite for Creation Part 2: Think or Swim

Advocacy for creative engineering in favor of engineered creativity was substantialized by continued exploration of the Samsung SCH-u540's primitive imaging capabilities.  By understanding the core basics of photography then utilizing a broad range of unorthodox methods in camera placement, one can easily and instantaneously achieve results that rival those produced by cutting edge software.  There is no doubt that educated and experienced individuals have the potential to reach new stratospheres in visual expression with assistance from state-of-the-art imaging programs, but the majority amongst those in the growing pasture of modern photography seem to forget that the equipment is only as good as the user: having a driver's license does not make one Danica Patrick of NASCAR, much less F-1 racing legend Ayrton Senna.  Consider the fact that one of the world's most enduring and highest standards of artistic value, Michelangelo's David, was shaped with little more than a hammer and chisel.

Spurred on by adolescent curiosity and adventurous imagination, seeking the absolute limits of this dying technology (a 1.3 megapixel camera phone with no flash) yielded some interesting outcomes.  Through trial and error, the boundaries that this camera could effectively operate in began to define themselves.

The images below dated "8-17-11" were taken while traveling from NYC to Washington, D.C., whereas the two dated "8-20-11" were captured in Northern Virginia.

Happy accidents though these might have been, the findings were nevertheless valid and eventually a consistent technique was developed for the purpose of replicability.  Regardless of mainstream acceptance and recognition, this photographic series will continue to demonstrate how ideological innovation through introspective evolution should be held in much higher regard than impotent reliance on vacuous pursuits of fashionable facades.  One simply cannot stand on the shoulders of giants and feign ignorance of the fundamentals that were established long before.
