Darkon Feast 2011 in another nutshell

Two weeks ago, Elidor's very own Kesrya Ravine (Party Girl of Redemption, Unofficial Minister of Bitch, Goddess of Cheesy Bacon Potatoes) was kind enough to extend an invitation to participate in the Darkon Wargaming Club Feast, which provided a welcome respite from the daily struggles of being an emerging artist in New York City.

Previous exposure to tabletop role-playing games, Magic: the Gathering, literature by Raymond E. Feist and Piers Anthony as well as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film phenomenon helped considerably in putting one at ease when mingling with this crowd of contemporary geeks.  The subcultures of LARPing and US Air Guitar may oftentimes elicit  scornful reactions from the common mainstream denominators, but existing on the lunatic fringe with like-minded folk of diverse backgrounds can create a sense of community that rivals what the followings of any mass media-driven product can offer.

This particular night featured platters of scrumptious bounty, flagons of intoxicating refreshments, scintillating live entertainment, leisurely civil interactions and a palpable atmosphere of bonhomie.

These images represent but an inkling of the fellowship that comes from bashing each other with foam-wrapped PVC weaponry, staying out in the woods with copious amounts of revitalizing liquid nourishment, loosening of social inhibitions and welcoming all who wish to join in.  A full selection of edited photos from the evening's celebrations are going online very shortly - details will be posted to the Darkon message board, updated on this blog and sent via email contacts.

    Peace, love, air guitar~
